Adventure Sports Planning And Preparation Matters
Bungee jumping may seem nothing more than jumping off a very high point with an elastic rope attached. However, it is very important to come up with a detailed preparation plan. This is the fundamental rule of adventure sporting activities.
Time required for preparation may be many times the time spent performing the activity. Take whitewater rafting for example. The planning process must involve numerous hypothetical questions. What if the raft hits a rock and collapses? What if your oars are swept away in the current? What if you lose your helmet? What if you are stranded? What if somebody goes overboard? It is important to plan for all these issues before even thinking of setting the raft on the water.
Spending lots of time planning for an activity that may not last more than 15 minutes may seem like a waste of time. However, a few near misses were enough to convince me that adventure sports involves something more than packing the Ascis gel kayano and hitting the surf. What seems like a sport from afar can quickly become a life threatening emergency unless one is well prepared.
From the level of fitness of the individual participant to the choice of equipment - there is no insignificant point when planning for adventures sporting activities. Use the internet if you are not certain whether your planning is adequate or not. Find out how others plan and prepare for their trip before you take the plunge. It is better to be safe than sorry with adventure sports.
